First Practice

So my first practice with Team Fastlane was amazing! I cut about 20-30 seconds off of my 100m time in just one practice. They gave me a lot of pointers that were really useful for my training. I was really impressed, and after my first practice with them, I already know I am going to do a lot better at SGTRI than I would have otherwise. I think I will be pretty competative. I can't wait for more practices with them.

Team Fastlane

This season, I have decided that I wanted to take my training to the next level, so I joined a triathlon team called Team Fastlane. It is a triathlon team/club with professional coaching. It is designed to assist triathletes in taking their training to new heights. They provide 4 group workouts a week(year round) a long with individualized coaching as well as clinics and camps. It looks like it will help me with my goals that I have set and then some.

This season, I was originally planning on doing 3 triathlons, two olympic distance and one half Ironman, but after I got off the phone with my new coach, he had talked me into doing 6 tri's. He originally wanted me to do 2 a month from May to October, but I thought that was intense. So, I talked him into letting me do one a month. I still think that is crazy, but not as nuts as two a month. We will see how it goes. I have been training all winter though, so I don't think it is an unrealistic goal. It will just push me a lot.

So anyway, that is Team Fastlane. I will blog more about my experiences with them once I start training next week.

Triathlon Training Bible and Running

It is that time again. Time to get ready for a new season. To do so, I bought the Triathlon Training Bible by Joel Friel and the accompanying diary. I have been using it the last couple of weeks to improve my training. It has been really helpful to map out my workouts, set goals, and have a plan. I would highly recommend the tri bible to any other triathletes. It is awesome! It has really helped me a lot with my training, and has a lot of useful advice such as how to pace your workouts, what to focus on, skills needed for each sport, how to set up your season, how to avoid overtraining, fundamentals of racing, etc. One suggestion that has been really helpful is to focus on your weakest sport first and spend more training time there during the week.

This month my focus is going to be on running since that is my weakest sport. My first small goal is to run a 5k at the end of the month with the SL Running Company. Today for my workout I ran 3.1 miles did 20 minutes of abs and swam 8x50m. I felt like it was a pretty good workout, and one I could reproduce tomorrow. So I think I have found the right intensity. I will run every day the rest of this week with some variation of bike or swim added. Next week, I will start working out with my new team, Team fast lane 4 days a week. I will still trying to keep my focus on improving my run even though I am going to be doing some group training with my new team.

The first blog about my triathlon adventures

Welcome to my triathlon blog. Here I am going to document all my experiences with my training, products I recommend, advice I have, and things I learn a long the way. The main purposes of this blog are to journal my experience, help others who are new to the sport of triathlon like me, and for my friends who want to follow my training. So I hope you enjoy it.
